I never thought I’d see someone actually argue that taking pictures of important moments is a bad thing. But here we are.
You know what people were doing before phones had good cameras? Taking lots of pictures with digital cameras. Before that, they were taking lots of pictures with film cameras.
But since it’s in a smartphone, oh noes, it’s evil and we’re all gonna die remembered as shiny little boxes.
Really? You’ve never heard the argument that people should enjoy a moment without feeling a need to capture it? I crops up every time a new technological advancement appears, from the polaroid camera of the 80s to the camcorder of the 90s. That it is the smartphone in this comic (a device you seem weirdly defensive of) is rather irrelevant, in my opinion. That was my intention, anyway. Still, thanks for your comment and your perspective!
I know this is an old thread but wanted to say that you are soooooo right! Every time some of my friends get out a phone/camera their kids stiffen up into a ‘pose’. Reminds me of Pavlov’s dog.
This came up on my Facebook feed today. Exactly the same thing happened at my wedding – although notably it was the more obvious because my dad was using a tablet to record my speech, and it really did obscure his whole face (which never really happened with smaller phones). There I was, thanking my parents, and I turned to face a person who, for the moment, had his head replaced by a big grey rectangle. :-)
The parents having the same phones for such a long time means this must be a very poor family.
I think you’ve captured the zeitgeist pretty well. It will morph again tomorrow, so keep your nibs sharp.
I like how they even have blockheads in the picture on the background of the second frame. Taking pictures of the photographer taking picture of them.

People these days will be on the Internet from the womb to the tomb. Privacy is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

Saw someone attempting to pass this off as their own on Instagram.
