Bah, oh well. I googled it and couldn’t find anything. I guess I’m not the best googler, though. Anyway, I tried to make the strip a bit more about the reactions of the aliens mirroring the crew reactions in the film.
I spend too much time worrying if a joke has been “done”or not. You can send yourself crazy obsessing about it and won’t get anything finished. You’re better off just doing the joke/comic and see what happens.
As in SF, “there are no new ideas”. What matters is the execution. That said, excessive borrowing makes for weak art. Being aware of your predecessors is a good thing; callouts like Otter’s are both respectful of other artists, and helpful to those of us who like comparing how different artists handle the same material.
Could be worse. It could have burst out of the region they usually come from…
