Cthulhu’s Thanksgiving
Apologies to all my Turkish readers! At least there are some good news for my turkey readers, as you were spared this time around. Unless you’re a Turkish turkey, in which case means you are doubly doomed instead.
Oh, and happy Thanksgiving to my American readers! I was lucky enough to be invited to my Norwegian/American friends for Friendsgiving this past weekend. Shoutout to the excellent hosts Paige and Erlend! I am extremely happy to report that the turkey (and the gravy!) was indeed heavenly delicious.
did you know that in brazil we call the animal turkey peru?
In Brazil and Portugal: Peru (After the country, yes)
In Dutch: Kalkoen, from Calcutta hen -> India
In French: Dinde from coq d’inde or hen of india
In Turkish: Hindi (India)
In Malay, it’s “Dutch Chicken”.
Basically nobody knew that it came from Madagascar, because they all got it via other cultures.
In Polish it’s indyk (India)
Turkeys don’t come from Madagascar, but from the Americas. They were domesticated in ancient Mexico.
There’s lots of Greece next to the Turkey.
And don’t forget to serve the Turkey on fine China!
(Thinking about food just got me all Hungary.)
Are you Ghana Sweden the yams?
Kenya pass me the salt and Papua?
