We don’t have these mailboxes in Europe, so when researching them I discovered the flag is primarily used for outgoing mail (and not as a notification for incoming mail). Well, turns out it fits the theme of this comic even better! So yeah, hopefully he’ll arrive at the correct recipient in divinity. *sniffle*
When I was a kid, my parents actually instructed me NEVER to use the flag, because it was essentially telling potential mail thieves that something was inside. (This is apparently a common idea, as most mailboxes around my area have the flags, but I’ve never actually seen anyone put the flag up.) I’m not sure of the theological implications of this.
Ah yes, mail theft could be a downside to this feature. Still, in theory it stands out as an American thing I wish we had over here. Maybe it’s just the novelty that’s appealing to me.
We might adopt it as soon as Americans start using the metric system!
It’s not as big deal, and you’ve already said you never use that kind of mail box, but the hinge is on the wrong side of the flag in the first panel. The flag always tilts towards the opening of the mail box, like you depict in the third panel.
Oh yeah, nice catch. Actually I think it should be on the other side as well. I blame my excessive horizontal flipping of the various elements of that panel. Had to re-flip it as I discovered he was clutching the right (wrong) side of his body. Hah.
Oh and you got the number of rivets wrong…
And in US funeral homes that use wood plank flooring
they are installed on west to north, oh and IT’S A COMIC STRIP
K, as always, well done sir.
Nice touch putting the flag at half mast!
I like how the shape of the strip mimics the mailbox/coffin shape.
Yeah, just wanted to say that.
Nice little touch indeed :D
This is one of my favorites of yours :)
Tusen takk Kristian!
I hope the post office paid for his funeral.
Yep! Unfortunately only in stamps.
