Human Trap
Oh hi, here’s a new comic strip. I just noticed that this is my 13th comic strip in a row with the pantomime (i.e. dialogue free) tag. Maybe I should go completely wordless from now on? It certainly makes translating the strips to Norwegian a whole lot easier!
Last panel slays me. Beautiful. :)
Great one! I like the wordless ones best, I think and the art is very nice, too!
Although we don’t see it in the last panel, papa bear does shoot his kid and makes out with the guy, right?
-D.
I hate it when I have to do that in front of my cub. Stupid humans always get themselves stuck in traps.
I agree with Tom, the last panel is a thing of beauty. I also like that he still has his glasses in the first three :)
The killer be strip has words in it, not dialogue but words.
I don’t get the joke here… could someone please explain it? (sorry)
Is it the role reversal that’s meant to be humorous, or is there something else?
@Esn: I think it’s the role reversal.
@Kristian: You say you translate your strips to Norwegian? Which magazine are they posted? Must be an awesome one! =D
@Esn: Well yeah, that’s basically it. :) I wanted to make something more subtle and ambiguous with the last panel, though.
@Nikolai: Indeed it is! Optipess is in print in the Kollektivet Magazine, available monthly all over Norway! I also had a month-long appearance in Aftenposten in all of July this summer.
I have no problem with the last panel, I guess I just don’t find role reversal humorous in and of itself. “If bears were people and people were bears everything… would be exactly the same as it is right now”. I don’t know, it lacks something.
The guy’s expressions in panels 2&3 are nicely-done, though.
But everything wouldn’t be the exact same. The humor in reversal lies in the meta aspect: the observer who reads the strip knows the “correct” order of things and a reversal joke will always present the “wrong” order.
For a completely reversed reversal (i.e., if ppl truly were bears and bears truly were pp, etc), then it would be the humans finding a bear stuck in the trap, shooting it (?) in the last frame – however: we, the readers, would all be bears and find the strip hillarious as humans cannot put out traps nor operate weapons.
I can almost hear the sound of panel four. Nicely done.
