Pet Peeve
Another severe annoyance that should be a harshly punishable crime! Btw, the guys bursting in might be the same cops featured in this comic.
Ended up spending a bit of time trying to get the wording right for this one: I’m not at all fluent in legalese, so I’m still not entirely sure I used the text in the last panel correctly. That’s the correct implementation of “act”, right? Or should it be “decree” or “legislation” or something similar? (Going to sleep now but I might do some slight changes to the wording later!)
I’m neither a lawyer nor a native, but I think act is correct here. Although it’s usually capitalized as “Act”, see e.g. COPPA.
Depends on the country, but “Pet the Damn Dog Act” without any quotes is what I’d expect in this context. Decree, Order, and Regulation could also work, though that would be more from someone declaring it a thing rather than being passed directly by a parliamentary system. Legislation is a broader term, on a sign/notice you’d usually use it when vaguely referring to a set of legislation e.g. “violations of dog protection legislation”.
Thanks, guys! I ended up capitalizing the A in Act, but I kept the quotes – a bit for readability but also the name would be derived from a quote in the first place if that makes sense. Did some other minor tweaks as well – the violations have now been changed to “severe”, because damn right they were.
No one actually addressed the comic itself, so I will: that’s totally a peeve of mine too. I see so many cat/dog videos where the owner is pulling some sort of base prank against their pet or filming the pet in some kind of self-inflicted non-life-threatening distress, but then not even bothering to reward or help the poor animal after having fun at his/her expense. We’re getting more and more people out there who are so eager to find something that goes viral that they’ll film things without the slightest hint of concern for the subjects they’re filming — or worse, set out to create the circumstances. (Hmm… I’m sure there’s a COVID comic idea in there somewhere, although I can’t imagine it hasn’t been done before.)
