Weighed Down
For (hopefully understandable) reasons I’ve been struggling with getting enough sleep lately. Things have been improving for the past week or so, although the most recent night’s sleep was pretty much entirely botched by me waking up in the middle of the night from a very boring nightmare.
But, to the point, should I get one of these weighted blankets? Do they work or are they just another gimmick? Post your reviews below!
First, *hugs*
Second, I usually put a second, lighter (ok, stolen from a business class long-haul flight in the way back) blanket under my fluffy feather duvet in the winter. It’s warmer for sure, but the combination acts like a weighted blanket. It seems to have the same psychological effect as that of a baby being swaddled. I’m hoping to move to a colder climate soon, and if I do I’ll think seriously about getting a real weighted blanket.
I bought a weighted blanket for my partner who has a diagnosed generalised anxiety disorder. It makes noise when you move it as if it was filled with sand, so she calls it Sandy. :-) Finding it quite relaxing, she absolutely loves it. I don’t like to be too warm, so I often avoid it, but when it’s cold enough I enjoy it too. I do recommend you give it a shot.
I use one most nights now, and it helps me with some milder anxiety from when there was oil drilling <1/2 mile from the house for a couple months. My partner likes them too, but they're too hot for her outside of winter. So that's something to consider.
I have tried nightly sleep rituals, prescription drugs, tart cherry juice, and a bunch more. None worked very well. The weighted blanket puts me right to sleep. Well worth it.
Kristian FTW! Finding a new Optipess is the highlight of any day. I am sad to hear you are plagued by bad sleep, I can relate as my kids wake up a lot during thw night and my middle one then proceed to wake up for the day at 5:30 am each day.
I have considered a weighted blanket, they might help relieve some of my issues My counter question to the blankets is: seeng that there are several weight types, how heavy blanket do you use?
Whether weighted blankets work or not really depend upon your usual sleep cycle and how stressed you are.
A friend of mine has seen his sleep improve significantly after getting a weighted blanked. I have tried myself, but these do not help me for night sleeps, yet do wonders for post-lunchtime naps.
Consider trying one if you can get a refund in case it does not help you at all. It’s not magic, but it will definitely force your body to move less while falling asleep.
I’d like to try weighted blankets if I had the money, but I also sleep better when it’s cooler. I’d like to try putting copper ring mesh sheet over my duvet. :D
